Rhapsody in Blue

At first listen, George Gershwin’s composition of Rhapsody in Blue provokes curiosity with its seemingly improvised variations of a recurring melody. Throughout this piece, the listener may experience feelings of calm, excitement, joy, warmth, and wonder. Perhaps Gershwin was more of a fashionista than he realized, because it seems to me that his composition’s namesake was inspired by the many similarities between his music and the color blue, itself. Blue is and has long been widely recognized as a color whose many variations (royal blue, robin’s egg blue, navy blue, aqua … I could go on) express confidence, warmth, and in short, make a bold statement. The word “rhapsody” refers to an intense expression of feeling and/or enthusiasm. With Gershwin’s composition in mind, this week I have featured the many different shades of blue available in the store. See which shade best expresses your true self – we bet you can’t just pick one!
